Stepney Green is a real and unusual gem. It doesn't feel like London. No. 37 is the sort of house that you would expect to find in a market town in Wiltshire. Walk south west of Stepney Green and you will come to St Dunstan's, a late mediaeval church which was for centuries the 'mother church' for the whole of the East End. Well worth a visit.

I would love for a series of A House Through Time (David Olusoga for the Beeb) on this house! I’ll pop along when the weather gets a bit better, I’m still in hibernation mode currently

Yes, how wonderful would that be!

Nearby Tredegar Square, left off Mile End Road, heading towards Bow, is another pocket of calm. That whole square half-mile - between Grove Road, Mile End, the A12 and Vicky Park - is full of surprises

Agree, Tredegar Square and some of the streets around there are lovely to walk around.

I love these beautiful buildings that pop up in unexpected places in London. Thanks for sharing

Beautiful architecture and knowledgeable description of the area. Thank you. The wet weather is much the same here in Ireland unfortunately 😕🙄

Thank you! The interminable grey skies have really been a struggle this year … hoping it gets better soon, here and in Ireland!

This is lovely and takes me back. In the '90s I spent happy years living on the Mile End Road opposite Stepney Green tube.

Thank you! I lived in Spitalfields years ago and always enjoy a walk around these parts.
